Welcome to Learning Services, we are delighted you are studying with us. We hope you will find all the information you require on this webpage to help you get started using all the resources you need for your course of study. All new students will be given a tour of Learning Services and we meet for a one hour induction at the start of your course (for reference, Learning Services rules can be found in the document below).

Library & Learning Services will send you courtesy email notifications for items due to be returned within two days. Notifications may fail to reach you due to factors beyond our control. Please note that each reader is responsible for returning or renewing loans on time regardless of receipt of email notifications.
Students on Bournemouth University (BU) validated courses can use the facilities at BU. You will need your BU ID card to take books out. See What's Where for more information about BU libraries, including floor plans.
Students (and staff teaching) on BU validated courses will need their BU username and password to access the thousands of electronic resources provided by Bournemouth University.
You can reset your password via the BU student portal by going to Log-in Services. This is also the access point for all BU Services including your Brightspace VLE and your BU email account.

You will be given your user ID at enrolment, for students starting in and after September 2015, this ID is also the start of your email address:
For example: if your user ID is 17007 your email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your user ID will give you access to your Heritage Online account to renew and reserve items. It also gives you access to the vast majority of Learning Services resources.
Please use the self-service machine on the ground floor of the Library to borrow and return your books; you will need your ID card.

All students can renew books twice without bringing them into Learning Services, in the following ways;

What if the items I need are on loan to other readers?
Reserve items via Heritage Online if they are on loan to another reader.
Overdue books do incur fines:
One day loan items: 10p per hour
Short loan items: 50p per day
Long loan items: 10p per day.
We provide a postal service, and additional loan time, for students studying at a distance, do ask for further details. If you choose to return items to us by post you will need to pay for postage and the items remain your responsibility until we receive them. Ask at the Post Office/equivalent for proof of posting.
Computers, printers, photocopiers and scanners are available in the computer room in the Library, you will need your ID card to use the photocopier.

To add money to your printing account, please see staff at the Library front desk. Ask staff if you require any assistance using the copiers and printers.
