Library & Learning Services: Getting Started

Getting Started with Library & Learning Services

Welcome to Learning Services, we are delighted you are studying with us. We hope you will find all the information you require on this webpage to help you get started using all the resources you need for your course of study. All new students will be given a tour of Learning Services and we meet for a one hour induction at the start of your course (for reference, Learning Services rules can be found in the document below).

We look forward to helping you succeed.

Moodle

Moodle is your learning platform, it provides 24/7 access to resources and course materials. You will be given your Moodle username and password at induction.

Finding Resources: Reccommended Quick Links

Courtesy emails

Library & Learning Services will send you courtesy email notifications for items due to be returned within two days. Notifications may fail to reach you due to factors beyond our control. Please note that each reader is responsible for returning or renewing loans on time regardless of receipt of email notifications.

Your account & Logging on

You will be given your user ID at enrolment, this ID is also the start of your email address:

For example: if your user ID is 17007 your email address is 17007@aecc.ac.uk.

Your user ID will give you access to your Heritage Online account to renew and reserve items. It also gives you access to the vast majority of Learning Services resources.

Computers, Photocopiers and Printers

Computers, printers, photocopiers and scanners are available in the computer room in the Library, you will need your ID card to use the photocopier.

Costs per printed side:
5p A4 black & white
10p A3 black & white
25p A4 colour

To add money to your printing account, please see staff at the Library front desk. Ask staff if you require any assistance using the copiers and printers.

Borrowing, Renewing & Reserving items

Please use the self-service machines to borrow and return your books; you will need your ID card.

How many items can I borrow?

  • 15 books (short and long loan books)
  • 1 one day loan item
  • 3 DVDs

Renewing borrowed items

All students can renew books twice without bringing them into Learning Services, in the following ways;

You will not be able to renew a book if any of the following conditions apply:

  • the book has been reserved by another reader
  • you have outstanding fines.

What if the items I need are on loan to other readers?

Reserve items via Heritage Online if they are on loan to another reader.

Fines

Overdue books do not currently incur fines. However, this policy area is under review and is subject to change. Any change will first be agreed through internal committees, and documented in updated policies prior to the start of an academic year.

Postal Service

We provide a postal service, and additional loan time, for students studying at a distance, do ask for further details. If you choose to return items to us by post you will need to pay for postage and the items remain your responsibility until we receive them. Ask at the Post Office/equivalent for proof of posting.
