To celebrate #LibrariesWeek we have put together a list of top tips to get you started when using Library services.

1. Always start with LibGuides

To access library information and resources, the best place to start is always by heading to the LibGuides website: https://libguides.aecc.ac.uk/

From this page, you can access your course LibGuide which will have useful resources for your studies. There are also LibGuides to help with referencing and literature searching, plus both Library and Student Services LibGuides with useful information about the services we offer and how to access our resources and support.

The Library online catalogue and journals & databases page can also be found on the LibGuides pages either through your course LibGuide or the Library & Learning Services LibGuide.

2. Your student ID card is also your library card

To take books out, you will need your student ID card with you as this also acts as your library card throughout your studies. To renew your books online you will need your Reader ID, which the student number listed on your ID card.

3. Log in to Moodle (your VLE)

Moodle (https://moodle.aecc.ac.uk) is your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and we would recommend logging in and exploring as soon as you are able to. Moodle will have your course information, useful tools, and policies and information for students.

4. Get to know the Library online resources

The Library online resources are fantastic tools which can really enhance your university experience.

There is help with study skills in the form of Skills4Study, help with referencing from platforms like Cite Them Right, anatomy resources such as Anatomy.tv, and you can even learn a new language or improve your English with Mango Languages which can be found on our new student resources page.

Remember that all resources, articles, and e-books must be accessed through LibGuides as this is how the databases know you are accessing the content as a student from AECC UC.

5. Library staff are here to help

Library staff are here to support you throughout your studies and there will always be a friendly member of staff at the front desk ready to help you with any questions you may have.

You can also contact us with any queries via email or phone:

Email: learningservices@aecc.ac.uk

Telephone: +44 (0)1202 436306

Remember that there are no silly questions – we are always happy to help.

There is lots going on in the Library and Student Services this week, so keep an eye on your emails and Social Media.
