Accurate referencing is extremely important and essential in all academic work, but we understand it can be overwhelming as a new student, or if you haven’t had much experience referencing before. Therefore, we wanted to share some top resources to help you get a better understanding of referencing and where to find help and guidance on specific referencing styles.

1. Referencing LibGuide

The best place to start would be by looking at the Library’s referencing guide which has some basic information on referencing and will also tell you which referencing style you should be using under the School you are studying within.

2. Skills4Study Campus

Skills4Study Campus is a resource which has online tutorials to help you develop the study skills you require to succeed at university. The module ‘Referencing and understanding plagiarism’ is a great introduction to what referencing is, why we do it, and how to avoid plagiarism.

You can find the link on your Moodle homepage or you can click onto it from the Library’s study skills page.

3. Cite Them Right

Cite Them Right is a useful tool which gives you clear referencing guidance for specific referencing styles alongside examples to help you understand how to put this into practice. You will also find general information, videos, and tutorials on referencing and plagiarism which are really useful to get started.

You can find the link to Cite Them Right on the library’s referencing guide.

5. Further help and support

If you have any questions about referencing, please do not hesitate to contact the Library at learningservices@aecc.ac.uk

Please note: Library staff are happy to provide guidance on where to find referencing information and can look at specific examples you may be struggling with. However, Library staff cannot write references for you or proof-read reference lists as this must be your own work.
