Staff Guide: Books & eBooks

Finding books in the library

The library uses the Dewey Decimal Classification system which groups all books according to subject, using a 'classmark' made up of numbers, usually followed by the first three letters of the author's surname.

Heritage Online is our library catalogue. It displays the location, classmark and availability of each item in our collection. You can search the catalogue using title, author or keywords.

There is also a handy subject list providing an alphabetical listing of all subjects used on the catalogue.

Key subject areas and their Dewey numbers are listed below to get you started. Please ask library staff if you need help finding books.
