Welcome and welcome back! Library and Student Services updates

We're delighted to welcome all our new students to AECC University College, to welcome back our returning students, and to welcome our staff back to a new academic year! This blogpost should get you up and running quickly using services again.


Seats and study rooms

  • It is no longer mandatory to book a seat in the Library. However, due to student requests, the Library Team are piloting seat booking for seats on the ground floor of the Library. Seats are bookable via the same link on LibGuides
  • Group study pods/room will revert to group study (a maximum of 6 people in each room/pod). Booking for group study spaces will open from 06/10/21, until then there is no need to pre-book.

Books: Browsing is back

  • Click and Collect is no longer in use, book browsing is available, as physical distancing is no longer in place. However, please be mindful of other library users when you are browsing book collections as study desks may be in close proximity to some books 
  • As per normal, a book postal service operates for those who cannot get to campus, email the library if you need items

Health and Safety

  • One way system: please adhere to the one-way system that is in operation throughout the library and university college
  • Hand sanitising: there is plenty of hand sanitiser throughout the library, please practise good hand hygiene
  • Cleaning study spaces: please clean your study space before and after use; there are cleaning stations near all study spaces which contain cleaning spray and blue roll for this purpose
  • Masks are mandatory (unless exempt) when moving around the library and other communal areas


  • The Library has a supply of laptops for loan, please ask at the front-desk if you would like to borrow one.

Student Services

The Student Services Team are booking appointments as per normal, booking is just the same as it was over the summer. To book to see one of the Team, simply:

  • Pop up to the top floor of Cavendish House, mornings, Monday - Friday, from 27/09/21, (appointments will be available outside these times). Do note that,
  • Appointments can be in-person, online or by phone, depending on student preference 
  • A drop in for wellbeing is available for urgent appointments daily


Get In, Get Ahead

  • Get In, Get Ahead reinduction sessions will start on Saturday 9th October. This is open to all new and returning students who would like to spend some time preparing for the new academic year with Student Mentors and Caroline Cooke and Lisa Bates. For more details and to book click this link.
