Study Space over the revision and assessment period

by Caroline Cooke on 2019-04-28T11:08:00+01:00 in Library | 0 Comments

Feedback from student focus groups suggested that students are concerned about desk hogging. Some students are leaving their belongings behind while they disappear for long periods. This is a particular problem during revision and assessment periods.

It was suggested that the library trials an 'advice notice' process to encourage students not to reserve desk space and disappear for long periods of time.

This is what students suggested and the Library has implemented:

  • If you are leaving your desk for more than 20 minutes please take your belongings with you
  • Library staff will monitor desk space once an hour and issue a 'parking notice' if the desk has been unattended for 20 minutes
  • Students can also issue 'parking notices' and can collect these from the front desk
  • We have booked out Seminar Room 001 for 'Pop-up' quiet study space during specific times which are advertised on posters outside the room.

Posters will be placed around the library with information about the trial, please do give us your feedback.

Information about the extended opening hours for the assessment period can be found on the blog.
